Description

The Most-Holy Mother of God on Her he icon Pantanassa is prayed for being healed of cancer and of deliverance from being possessed by evil spirits. That amazing mission of the icon was revealed in 17th century with healing of a youth keen on magic and sorcery.

The wonder working icon Pantanassa resides in Vatopedi monastery at the Holy Mount Athos in Greece. It was painted in 17th century with the blessing of the monastic elder Joseph Hesychast.  The Greek name Pantanassa – Queen, or Domina of All – itself indicates its special all-embracing force. At first the icon had been venerated only as the protectrix against deuce and sorcery. But when oncotic diseases that were deemed the result of an evil curses and eyes started spreading, it turned out that a pray to the icon helps in that fight as well. Not always the illness passes completely but often slows down it development or stops on the stage when the person prayed for help before the icon Pantanassa. Its help appeared to be so efficacious that the icon copies spread all over the world. After repeated prayers of believers the copies started make healing wonders as well, those wonders going on till now.

The small icon Pantanassa depicts the Mother of God enthroned and holding the Infant Christ who has a scroll in His left hand. Fingers of His right hand are arranged in a gesture of benediction. The Mother of God points to Her Kingly Son as to the Saviour. On the background there are two angels worshipping the Most-Pure Virgin sacredly. The reverse of the small icon shows cross in blossom – a symbol of eternal life and salvation.
